German-speaking buyers — in Germany, Austria and Switzerland — together specify roughly a third of all extruded aluminium tile profile sold in Europe. The market is technical, standards-driven, and uses a precise, narrow vocabulary in tender documents. A supplier who doesn't know the vocabulary loses RFQs before they ever reach pricing.
The vocabulary
The umbrella term for the entire product category is Fliesenprofile — literally "tile profiles". Below that umbrella sit the application-specific terms.
Fliesen Kantenprofil is the edge profile family — the L-, round- and square-edge trims that finish the visible cut edge of a tile run. This is the single highest-volume product in the category.
Fliesen Treppenprofil is the stair-edge profile, used at the nosing of tiled stairs to protect the front edge of each tread, provide visual contrast (often required by accessibility regulations) and resist impact wear.
Fliesen Übergangsprofil is the transition profile — used where tile meets a different floor finish at a doorway or material change.
Fliesen Dekoprofil covers the decorative-insert family: visible profiles installed within the tile field for visual rhythm or to mark expansion joints. The DIN-compliant equivalents are widely specified in commercial fit-outs.
Fliesenschienen Kerlite is the specialty subcategory for ultra-thin large-format porcelain panels (Kerlite and similar 3–6 mm slabs) which need profile geometry that grips into very thin substrates.
Fliesen Nivelliersystem — the tile leveling system family of clips, wedges and pliers — has become standard specification on any installation involving panels above 90 × 90 cm.
For exterior applications, Terrassenprofil covers the terrace, balcony and pool-edge profile family — typically deeper-section profiles with integrated drip edges and weather-resistant finishes.
What German buyers expect from a supplier
DIN-compliant material certification (EN AW-6063-T5 with full alloy composition documentation), CE-marked packaging, accurate tolerance compliance to ±0.2 mm on visible faces, and complete export documentation including EUR.1 certificates of preferential origin where applicable. Late, mis-marked or under-documented shipments end commercial relationships in this market.
